We know now
that he made his getaway
hiding behind the blind guy,
a little in front actually,
between a hand's breadth
and an arm's length,
offering his elbow. It was
the perfect disguise--no one guessed
it was the guy guiding the blind guy
around the carnival,
eating their cotton candies,
threading their way through the crowds
to the merry-go-round,
where he mounted a horse,
the blind guy a unicorn,
and they giddy-upped right out of there
while the calliope played.
