"It's easy to tell that there's a striking contrast even though the environment is similar and the colors are identical. 'Devastation' ensues a sense of anger and desperation, somewhat similar to the emotions of all of those who suffer in third world countries as well as in multi-developed ones. 'Fulfillment' on the other hand, depicts a sort of happiness, the kind achieved by material posessions and gluttenous aspirations. Or, it could be just as well interpreted as simple self-awareness and acceptance of one's own situation reaching a comfortable level of contentment... I made them black and white because of its dramatic effect, the emotion expressed in each face is real and tangible. We can relate to them both, tie in our own experiences to the symbolistic and metaphorical nature of the portraits."
