La Tète (The Head)
The school has just appointed a so-called "Superhead". He has a vision. He has been carefully selected by the governors or the government - the small print is a little unclear on this point. He has a vision. He wants to turn this place into an academy. An academy of what - truanting children? Disaffected cleaners and dinner ladies? Broken staff and broken promises?
He has a plan and a winning formula. He has some catchphrases:
Think well and others will think well of you.
Don't focus on the problem, focus on the solution.
We're all singing from the same hymn sheet and the tune is one of concerted success.
He truly believes that wearing a suit makes you better at your job. When you're kneeling by a table or covering your hands with paint and glue or demonstrating a forward roll in the gym hall, you might hold a different opinion but you will not express it. Flap the vents in that jacket, buster.
What's that other saying of his? Oh yes: A clean shave indicates a clear mind. It's all about the focus, the direction, the buzz words, the jargon. The children are not pupils, they are consumers. Customers, even. No, what's the word that we all use these days? Ah yes, that's it: "stakeholders".
The last time I saw stakeholders they were gathered around Dracula's corpse poking wooden sticks into his decaying flesh. Is that the image Superhead wants to convey? Maybe it's some sort of cash-in on the success of "Twilight".
Just hold tight, he'll crash and burn soon enough and yes, we will dig out the stakes and prod at his corpse with them.
I know that some of you will want to return to the first-mentioned foot and kick the guy's head in. Hold back that ire for now.
